About Us

Help with Books is a not-for-profit initiative founded in 2008.

The project developed from our experience as children living in the Tibetan refugee settlement in South India. It was always difficult for book lovers to get good books to read because they are either too expensive to buy or the books available in the school library are not easily accessible. It was about two decades ago and the same situation prevails. Nothing has changed, and we felt that something has to be done. During our various conversations on the topic, a good friend remarked — “Reading should be for pleasure” and since then we found a direction to our idea.

We believe that every child and adults alike will love and enjoy good books to read. We have to create an environment conducive for every reader to find this joy. We have to make books easily available to encourage as many children as possible to read.

Reading culture is not instilled in the majority of Tibetan children since childhood. Because most of the parents are not educated, books were and still are associated with academics, school, or learning. This concept of books leads to parents forcing their children to “read” their school textbooks, but not comics or magazines or encourage leisure reading. So, reading became a forced activity resulting in a negative attitude towards it.

Help with Books aims to change this … one book at a time.

Our aim is to offer children and people of all ages the opportunity to look at books with a new perspective — a medium to Learn, Inspire, Educate and Empower.

Help with Books is aimed to provide a bridge between children who deserve the opportunity of having the best books available to them and people like you.

We believe that everyone is a reader; some just haven’t found their favorite book yet.

There are a host of ways in which like-minded people can participate in our mission. Please see our Help section to see how you can help and be a contributor.
